Q: What is Jeopardy?
A: Jeopardy is a program that allows you to play Jeopardy in an educational environment. This
can be used for a good, competitive way to give tests or quizes that is a whole lot more fun than pencil
and paper tests.
Q: How do you use it?
A: To begin with, you create your game, categories and questions using the easy to use editor
that comes with the software. Each game can have up to 7 categories and each category can have up to 15 questions.
Once you get your questions entered, start the program and load your game. The board will fill with the
categories and questions and you're ready to go.
Q: How can you play Jeopardy with teams?
A: This is how it works. You split your class into 2 equal teams. Each team can come up with a name,
or simply leave it as the default "Team 1" and "Team 2". You start with the first person
on one team and they pick the category and point value. They then get 60 second to answer the question by
themselves. If they get it right, they get the points plus the team gets the points. If they get it wrong, the
question falls to the team and they can collectively work on the question. If the team cannot get the answer
to the question, it goes to the opposite team and they get a chance to steal the points. Next, the first person
on the other team gets to pick their category and point value and the cycle starts again. It's a little confusing
to grasp when just reading it, so here is another way to think of it:
Team A has 4 students. Team B also has 4 students. You begin the round by asking Student 1 on Team
A to pick their question. They do and get it wrong. The question then falls to all of Team A to come up with an answer.
They get it wrong too. It then falls to all of Team B to come up with the answer. They get it right and they get the
points. That round is over. Next, Student 1 on Team B picks a question and you go from there. Then Student 2 on Team
A and Student 2 on Team B and so on and so forth.
Q: How are the scores calculated?
A: There are two different scores in the game, the individual scores and the team scores. If it is a
student's question and they get it right (say for 1000 points) then 1000 points is added to their individual score
and 1000 points is added to the team score. Now, everyone on the team has 1000 points and the person who answered
it correct has 2000. If they got it wrong, there is no penalty and the question goes to the team. If the team answers
a question right, everyone on the team will get the 1000 points.
If a Daily Double is found, the student who chose gets to wager their individual score on the question.
For Final Jeopardy, the teams can only wager the team points and not the individual points. A Scoreboard is available
at any point in time to see the current class rankings.
Q: Why is there an A, B, C and other letters after the points?
A: Because you can have up to 15 questions per category, it's possible to have multiple questions
worth the same point value. When this happens, the system will automatically put a letter behind the value
so the student can truly pick their question. For example, if there were three questions worth 800 and they
chose that category for 800, which one would it be? With the letters, they can pick 800A, 800B or 800C and get
the one they want.
Q: Why is a sound card recommended for Jeopardy?
A: The Jeopardy program has the ability to play audio files for questions. This means you can have
a name that tune type of game. It also makes it great to use for music classes (Name this composer, etc.).
Q: What file formats does Jeopardy support for Audio Questions?
A: You can use your own mp3, wav, wma and mid files.
